FAQs

The cabins sit at over 9,000 feet high up in the Fitzpatrick Wilderness. Owned by the American people and managed by the U.S. Forest Service, special regulations are in place to help maintain the integrity of the Simpson Lake Lodge cabins.

The History at Simpson Lake Lodge

In 1928, three innovative men, Nobe Harrison, Les Wright and Earl Nichols built three cabins on the east shore of Simpson Lake, with the intention of creating the Three Waters Fishing & Hunting Lodge.

It took rigorous skill, effort and perseverance to construct these log cabins in the remote backcountry. Logs and stones from the surrounding area were used in constructing the foundation, fireplace, walls and floors.

These iconic cabins have played host for almost a century to Boy Scouts, guests of the CM Ranch and even notable, historic figures such as the Roosevelt family and Ogden Pleissner.
